What it does
Withings makes connected measurement devices for the home (scales, hybrid smartwatches, blood-pressure monitors and sleep sensors) that report into one app.
Read the full description
The company is unusual in consumer health hardware for how far it has pushed into regulated territory. Several of its devices carry medical clearances for specific functions such as ECG recording, which puts them in a different category from most wellness wearables, and its more recent scales measure considerably more than weight.
For a product team the interesting question is the one the whole category faces: a household that owns four connected devices generates a great deal of data and very little instruction. What the app does with a reading (when it says something, when it stays quiet, and when it tells someone to see a doctor) is where the design work is.
