What it does

SOPHiA GENETICS was founded in Lausanne in 2011 as a spin-out from EPFL. Its platform takes raw next-generation sequencing output from a hospital or laboratory and calls, annotates and pre-classifies the variants it contains, so that a clinical team is reading a shortlist rather than a signal-processing problem.

Read the full description

Sequencing became affordable well before interpretation did. A laboratory can generate the data; deciding which of thousands of variants is causative, and saying so with enough confidence to act, is the part that stayed hard. That gap is the market these platforms serve, and it is why the product is sold to laboratories rather than to patients.

The platform is used in oncology, hereditary cancer, rare disease and metabolic testing. The company reports use across several hundred institutions; those counts are company-reported.

Its annual report on Form 20-F for 2025 gives its principal executive office as La Pièce 12, Rolle, Switzerland, and says the company was incorporated as a Swiss stock corporation (société anonyme) on 18 March 2011 and is headquartered in Rolle. Its 2026 releases are datelined Boston and Rolle.
