What it does
Practo was founded in Bengaluru in 2007 and is one of the longest-running healthcare marketplaces in India. Patients search a directory of clinicians, book in-person appointments, or consult by video; the company also sells practice-management software to the clinics listed on it.
Read the full description
Operating a booking marketplace across a country where most care is delivered by small private clinics is a different problem from operating one in a single-payer system. There is no central directory to build on, so the directory itself is the asset, and keeping it accurate is continuous work rather than a one-time import.
The two sides of the business reinforce each other: clinics using the practice software keep their own availability current, which is what makes the consumer-facing booking dependable.
