What it does

Cura was founded in Riyadh in 2016 by software engineers Wael Kabli and Mohammad Zekrallah. Patients open a consultation with a doctor by video, audio or text, and can send photographs and documents as part of it.

A company press release, republished by Wamda under a "Press release" heading, describes Cura as the first licensed telemedicine company in Saudi Arabia and as having collaborated closely with the Saudi Ministry of Health on digitising the health sector, work it says fed into the ministry's national telemedicine application, Sehha, through which Cura's licensed technology delivered over 2.8 million consultations. Those are the company's own statements carried by a third party, not independent reporting of them, and Recent HealthTech has not verified the "first licensed" claim or the consultation figure.

Text and photograph consultations, rather than video alone, matter more here than in markets where video is the default: they are usable on a poor connection and are less demanding of a patient's privacy at home.
