What it does

Independent evidence

Established from a source other than the company.

NICE (HTG746) describes DERM as an artificial intelligence based skin lesion analysis technology intended for the screening, triage and assessment of suspected skin cancer lesions in people aged 18 or over. A smartphone with a dermoscopic lens attachment is used to photograph the lesion and the images are uploaded to the company's platform; if DERM labels a lesion as benign, the person is discharged. NICE supports its use in NHS teledermatology only during a three year evidence generation period and on the conditions its guidance states, including a healthcare professional review for people with black or brown skin.

What the company says

The company’s own statements, attributed to it and not presented as established fact.

The company describes DERM as AI as a Medical Device (AIaMD) that assesses the dermoscopic images of lesions only; benign lesions are discharged with an outcome letter and premalignant or malignant lesions go to a virtual dermatologist review. The name is also expanded as Deep Ensemble for Recognition of Malignancy.
